जेव्हा पुस्तकं बोलू लागतात...!

      Serendipity म्हणजे अचानक एखादी खूपच मोलाची गोष्ट हाती लागणे, हे कधीही कुठल्याही बाबतीत शक्य आहे. एखादं दर्जेदार पुस्तक अचानक हाती लागलं तर आनंद होतोच, पण एखाद्या दर्जेदार लेखकाची ओळख झाली, तर हिऱ्याची खाण सापडल्यासारखं वाटतं. आशा बगे हे नाव मला अगदी गेल्या महिन्यापर्यंत माहीत नव्हतं, आणि आता मला सर्वार्थाने आवडलेल्या लेखकांच्या यादीत त्यांचं नाव मला जोडावंच लागेल. स्त्रीवादी लिखाणात दोन्ही टोकं टाळणारं लिखाण मला वाचायला आवडतं. म्हणजे बाई म्हणून कशी मी बिचारी, त्यागाची मूर्ती, सोशिकतेचा मेरुपर्वत असलं काही मला शिसारी आणतं. त्याउलट स्त्रीत्व ही काहीतरी फार मोठी बेडी आहे, ती तोडून भिरकावून दिली पाहिजे वगैरे असलं काही असंबद्ध, कृत्रिम वाटतं. माझ्या कल्पनेतली स्त्री तिचं स्त्रीत्व तिला जमेल तसं जपत, साजरं करतच पुढे जात असते. ती पुरुषांशी स्पर्धा करत नाही, ती स्वतःशीच स्पर्धा करते कारण तिला कुणाला हरवायचं नाहीये, तिला स्वतःला जिंकायचं आहे. हे सगळं करत असताना एक मुलगी, बहीण, बायको, सून,आई, सासू ,आजी,मैत्रीण अशा सगळ्या भूमिका तिला पार पाडायच्या आहेत. या दोन्ही गोष्टी साधतान...

It is a fact universally acknowledged, that once you fall in love with Pride and Prejudice , there is no way to return! I remember reading this novel as a student for the first time in college. With a passage of time, it has become even more relatable to me. I cannot decide whom I love more- the most splendid couple of all times Elizabeth and Darcy or Jane Austen for creating them?  It is always a pleasure to rediscover, reread this novel. Even a single meme about it delights me. Recently I come across this book- Mr. Darcy's Diary by Amanda Grange. An idea to see Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Darcy's angle  is ever compelling, and I have to admit, I am very pleased!  Jane Austen is known for creating so many unique personalities, who are so perfect, remarkable, that reinterpreting them is indeed a hard task to do.
